Morris receives his gold medal for men's super heavyweight

Traditional Karate of Owensboro
earned five gold medals at the Funakoshi Shotokan World Karate
Championships in Las Vegas, NV, Oct. 21-22.
World champion medals were won
in the Kata competition on the first day of the tournament
by Jamie Terry in the 16- and 17-year-old girls' blackbelt
and Andrea Hardesty in women's intermediate 18 and up. In
the Kumite competition the next day, TSKA earned three more
gold medals-- Craig Morris, men's super heavyweight black
belt 22-34; Destin Hudson, cadet men's black belt 20-21; and
Mitchell Coomes, boys 8-9 brown belt.
Second-place medals in Kata went
to Sensei Allen Renfrow in men's blackbelt 40-44 , Destin
Hudson in cadet men's black belt 20-21, Graham Postel in cadet
men's brown belt 20-21, Claire Ottman in girls' brown belt
8-9, Ann Jeannette Pierce in women's intermediate 18 and up
and Mitchell Coomes, boys' brown belt 8-9.
Bronze medal winners are, in Kata,
David Newton, cadet men's black belt 18-19; and Zach Park,
boys' black belt 16-17. In Kumite, third place went to Alex
Renfrow, men's black belt light weight 22-34; David Newton,
cadel men's black belt 18-19; Graham Postel, cadet men's brown
belt 20-21, Claire Ottman, girls' brown belt 8-9; Ross Cook,
men's intermediate 18 and up; Zeke Boarman, boys' brown
belt 16-17; and Andrea Hardesty, women's intermediate 18 and
up.
Finishing fourth were Dwight Ottman,
men's intermediate kata and kumite 18 and up; and Jamal Thruston,
boys' black belt kumite 16-17 .
Budo Spirit Awards at the event,
held at the Stardust Hotel and Casino, went to Jamal Thruston,
boys' black belt kata 16-17; D.J. Ottman, boys' 12-13 brown
belt kata and kumite; Zac Ottman, boys' 12-13 brown belt kata
and kumite; Nicholas Tuttle, boys' 12-13 green belt kata ans
kumite; and Zeke Boarman, boys' brown belt kata 16-17.
