Hidetaka Nishiyama, father of modern karate, conducts seminar
in Owensboro
Traditional Karate, Owensboro
held a karate seminar May 27-28 with Legendary Karate Master
Hidetaka Nishiyama.
Nishiyama Sensei is a direct
student of Gichin Funakoshi (Father of Modern Karate). Serving
as Co-founder and the first Technical Director of the Japan
Karate Association (JKA) are just few of his remarkable achievements.
Nishiyama Sensei is the world-recognized authority on Traditional
Karate and he is the Chief instructor for the AAKF (American
Amateur Karate Federation) and ITKF (International Traditional
Karate Federation).
This was Nishiyama Sensei's
first seminar in Kentucky. While in Owensboro Nishiyama Sensei
was presented with a key to city by Mayor Tom Watson and was
name a member of the Kentucky Cornels by Governor Erie Fletcher.
The seminar drew over 60 attendants from all over the mid-west
and south central regions of the United States. The following
states were represented at the seminar: Illinois, Indiana,
Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia and Wisconsin.
Sensei Nishiyama also held Dan
(black belt) rank examinations during his visit to Owensboro.
Several member of Traditional Karate, Owensboro took and pasted
their Shodan (first degree black belt) rank examinations under
Nishiyama Sensei. Those receiving their International Shodan
(first degree black belt) rankings from Nishiyama Sensei are:
Alex Renfrow, Destin Hudson, Jamie Terry, Devin Foster, Zach
Park and Craig Morris.
