| Elite Competition Youth Team Arches over Opposition in St. Louis in Inaugural MKA Tournament
The Missouri Karate Association (MKA) of St. Louis, MO hosted their inaugural Tournament on September 29th at the Doubletree Resort in Chesterfield, MO. Fifty-five competitors from teams in Chicago and Belleville IL, and several teams from St. Louis, MO challenged 15 team members from Owensboro’s own Traditional Karate Elite Competition Team. Twenty-nine medals were won in individual (Kata/Forms and Kumite/Sparring) and team categories.
This tournament is the final test for the Elite Team in their preparation for the FSKA IX World Karate Championships being held outside London England on October 13th and 14th. Most of the youth competed against either older or higher ranked opponents in St. Louis, thus making their accomplishments all the more impressive. The following members medaled in all 3 events in which they competed; Adam Sandefur, Madison Taylor, Aaron Sandefur, Gabby Canant, and Jamie Terry. Madison Taylor was the big winner as she won 1st place in both of her individual events.
