Karate shines in Las Vegas tournament

A team of thirteen athletes
from Traditional Karate, Owensboro recently represented Kentucky
at 2005 FSKA VII World Karate Championships Oct. 28-30 at
Las Vegas' Stardust Hotel Pavilion.

The team won 14 medals and
featured the following winners:
Sensei Allen Renfrow -- 2nd Kata, 3rd Kumite Adult Male Black
Belt (age 40-45); Graham Postel -- 2nd Kata, 2nd Kumite Cadet
Male Brown Belt (age 20-21); Dave Newtown -- 3rd Kata, 2nd
Kumite Cadet Male Brown Belt (age 18-19); Destin Hudson --
1st Kata Cadet Male Black Belt (age 20-21); D.J. Ottman --
2nd Kata Boys Purple Belt (age 12-13); Jamie Terry -- 2nd
Kata Girls Black Belt (age 16-17); Craig Morris -- 2nd Kumite
Adult Male Brown (age 22-34); Alex Renfrow -- 3rd Kumite Cadet
Male Black Belt (age 20-21); Fredrick Park III -- 3rd Kata
Adult Male Black Belt (age 50-and-over); and Jamal Thruston
-- 4th Kata, 4th Kumite Boys Brown Belt (age 16-17).
Over 800 athletes representing
